Our March 19th concert, Brilliant Baroque, will showcase some very special pieces, including Guiseppe Sammartini’s Concerto in E-flat for Oboe, featuring a solo debut performance by Principal Oboist Dr. Sherwood Wise.
Dr. Wise is thrilled to be making his solo debut with the Glens Falls Symphony in performing this technically challenging work. “I’m so excited and grateful to Maestro Peltz and the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra for the chance to explore this lesser-known work. The oboe has such a rich repertoire of Baroque concerti that the opportunity to pick one to perform can be a bit overwhelming! Because I had such an open field before me, I decided to look at something that is new to me and am very happy with what I’ve found. This piece is tricky, but I’m having fun and I think the audience will get a kick out of it!”
Dr. Wise has served on the music faculty of the College of Saint Rose since 2009, teaching applied double reeds and core curriculum courses. He has performed with professional orchestras all over the country, as well as performing as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.
