Maestro Charles Peltz
Having served as the Music Director of the Glens Falls Symphony since 2000, Charles Peltz is a proud resident of our vibrant Glens Falls community. Dividing his time between Glens Falls and Boston, where he is Director of Wind Ensembles at the New England Conservatory of Music, Maestro Peltz brings to Glens Falls a wealth of musical expertise.
Maestro Peltz has conducted to rave reviews orchestras in Italy, Ireland, and the Orquestra Nacional of Colombia. Here in the US he has graced the podium of the Buffalo, Pacific, Syracuse orchestras; his festival performances include a coveted spot on the millennial year of the Lincoln Center Festival in New York. Opera credits include a tenure as resident conductor with the Buffalo Opera company. He records on the MODE label, one of his recordings winning a French Palme d’Or.
An award winning educator, he has taught at Harvard, Ithaca College and SUNY Buffalo. He has served for thirteen seasons at the Luzerne Music Center both as Music Director and orchestra conductor, where he has enjoyed sharing his passion for music with talented young musicians from across the country.
Maestro Peltz has worked closely with virtuosos Sarah Chang, Ursula Oppens, Ilya Kaler and a long list of Pulitzer Prize-winning composers including Gunther Schuller, Jennifer Higdon, Karel Husa, Michael Colgrass as well as Joan Tower, Lukas Foss and other musical luminaries. He holds a Masters in Music from the New England Conservatory and a Bachelors in Music from Ithaca College.
